Hosting Your site on the web

A web host is an organization which sells web space to average joes like you and I. There is much software involved and certain operating systems that are ideal for the websites to operate optimally.

These companies usually buy or lease space in a datacenter (or server farm) choose web host imgand they modify the operating system of the server for best web performance.

I'd be very careful when choosing a web host, simply because many large organizations offer what is called a "reseller hosting" account, where they allocate a certain amount of space with all the necessary software needed to start a web hosting company all for a low fixed price.

This has led to the rise and fall of thousands if not 10's of thousands of fly-by-night web hosting companies.

Things to look for in a web host

Visit their website and get a feel for the look and design of it, does it look like they spent money on their design? Does it give you a bad feeling about doing business with them? Do they mention how many customers or domains they are currently hosting?

Do They offer a demo for you to try out their cpanel (the administration panel that you will use to manage your web hosting)? Do they have live chat or a toll-free number so you can call them? Do they mention how long they have been doing business? And can you do a search for them in the better business bureau in their respective state?

After all this has been verified, then I start to look at pricing and web packages. Nowadays, with all the cloud storage available, practically every reputable host will offer unlimited storage, and unlimited bandwidth transfer. But, they have begun making their packages more enticing by offering SSL Certificates, and Toll-Free Numbers or other business essentials.

The right web host will make all the difference in the world. There is not much of an expense involved when signing up for shared hosting, but you want to pick a host that is going to serve all your web needs.

This is why I am recommending one of the top web host companies in the states:

I have been using HostGator for about 5 years, and not once have I ever had any issues with downtime, I mean sure every once in a while I needed some support with some installations I was doing, but they have always had top-notch support. This website is hosted with HostGator, and so are my other websites that I use to make money online.

I have used NUMEROUS web hosting companies, such as:

None have come close to the ease of use and exceptional web experience that have caused me to use HostGator for all my hosting needs. However, all of the above mentioned web hosting companies must be doing something right, most of them host millions of domains, and thousands of customers.
